Windows 11 users are facing this problem after updating their PCs – Times of India

Microsoft started rolling out Windows 11 on October 5 and the users have started to report bugs in the new operating system. According to a Reddit thread, the update is suffering from memory leak issues as caused by a bug in File Explorer. When the computer is allocating too much RAM for a program and then doesn’t release the unused cache memory, it is referred to as memory leak. The bug was first spotted by Reddit user Gyrohan269 two months ago on a beta version of Windows 11. Now that post is getting attention slowly as other users who are facing similar issues after installing the new operating system are sharing their experiences.
“Whenever you open windows explorer and close it, the ram it uses is increased by a few MBs without going down when you close it. For example: When I turn on my pc, Windows explorer uses 60mb, and then when I open a random folder, it reaches 80, and when I close the same window, it only drops to 70mb, not 60. and after I open and close a folder multiple times, it reaches 1 GB!!” wrote Gyrohan269 in a Reddit post.
As per the user, the RAM allocation keeps on increasing until you restart the File Explorer using the Task Manager or restart the machine altogether. If you want to check the RAM allocation to programs that you are using, you can go to Task Manager. Although the bug has been reported on the Microsoft Feedback Hub, the company hasn’t acknowledged the issue as of now.
Windows 11 is a successor to Windows 10, which was launched in 2015, and is built on the same platform. To check if you have received the update, you can go to Settings > Windows Update. If your device hasn’t received the update yet, you can still install it through the Windows 11 software download page.
