m2 pro chip: Here’s when Apple could launch the ‘M2’ and the ‘M2 Pro’ chipsets – Times of India

Apple may bring the M2 chipset for Macs next year and its more powerful successor, the M2 Pro in 2023, as per a report by Commercial Times. Both the chips are most likely to use the 4nm manufacturing process by TSMC, the primary chipmaker for Apple. The M2 chip is codenamed Staten, while the M2 Pro chip has been codenamed Rhodes, claims the report.
Apple has been steadily moving away from the Intel chipsets and this year, it introduced the M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets for its latest MacBook Pro models. As per earlier reports, Apple is expected to make all of its new MacBooks ship with its own chips within a span of two years. But as per this report, the new MacBook Pro and possibly, the next iMac, would have to wait for 2023 for launch as they are expected to ship with the M2 Pro chipset.
As for the latest M1 series chipsets, the latest MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max applies a system-on-a-chip (SoC) architecture to pro systems for the first time, featuring fast unified memory and increased memory bandwidth for unparalleled performance, as per Apple.
Featuring a powerful up-to-10-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and two high-efficiency cores, along with an up-to-16-core GPU, M1 Pro is claimed to deliver up to 70 per cent faster CPU performance than M1, and up to 2x faster GPU performance. M1 Max features the same powerful 10-core CPU as M1 Pro and adds a 32-core GPU for up to 4x faster graphics performance than M1, claims Apple.
While the Apple M1 chip is built using 5-nanometer process technology, the M2 will be built using a 4nm process which would make for a more powerful and efficient processor. It could help with the MacBooks having longer battery life and also help cut down on the heating issues the devices might face.
