Tom Ford Releases A Sequel To His Glamorous Book

No stylish home is without a copy of Tom Ford’s book. A hefty black volume with nothing but the designer’s logo on the front cover. Simple, clean, modern and very much a fashion and interior design totem.

A sequel to the book launches today, entitled Tom Ford 002. This time the book is in all white and the designer’s logo in reverse type.

Tom Ford 002 picks up Ford’s story in 2005, just as he had sign a beauty deal, after a hiatus from the fashion industry. From there it chronicles, through photographs and quick reminisces, his journey to present day. This includes the launch of his successful eyewear collection. Followed by the even more successful menswear line. The movies he directed — A Single Man and Nocturnal Animals. And the debut of his womenswear collection with an ultra exclusive runway show that featured Beyonce, Juliane Moore, Rita Wilson, Lauren Hutton among other boldfaced names as models.

Much like the first Tom Ford book, Vogue editor Anna Wintour writes the foreword. She waxes lyrical of Ford’s talent, vision and artistry. And his uncanny ability to always be several steps ahead of the fashion milieu. “This book serves as a glorious sequel, the kind that the movie world loves so much, where the second act is even more fabulous and outsized than the first,” writes Wintour with a nod to Ford’s other hat – film director. She also touches on Ford’s roles as a husband to Richard Buckley (who passed away a few months ago) and a father to their son Jack.

In an interview with fashion journalist Bridget Foley in the book, Ford reveals some personal details such as the decade it took him to get over the depression he felt after leaving the Gucci Group, which he steered to global domination. His thoughts on Gucci’s current designer Alessandro Michele: “I love him, and I think what he’s done is brilliant. I hired him at Gucci.” And the I scratch your back, you scratch mine dealing in fashion: “Why would I pay people to wear my clothes? They wear my clothes on their own.”

Every major celebrity has worn Tom Ford: Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Madonna, Drake, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, David Beckham, Serena Williams, Daniel Craig, Naomi Campbell, the Jenners and Hadids, Janet Jackson, Colin Firth, Kate Moss, Michelle Obama, ad infinitum. And they are all in the book in full Tom Ford regalia, be they photographs from fashion editorials, red carpet outings or Instagram moments.

Of course it wouldn’t be a Tom Ford tome without the show of skin. There are those provocative photos. Ford buffing a male model’s derriere. Ford in a suit with Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley in nothing but red lipstick for Vanity Fair. Naked models splashing themselves with Tom Ford fragrance.

Tom Ford 002 covers all the glitz and glamour of the Tom Ford world. From the highly polished boutiques to the impeccably tailored men with their peak lapels and waistcoats, from the designer’s own unerring personal style to the sensual and powerful way he dresses women, from the runway shows to pictures of Ford in his many homes.

“As I look back over this book and over the last 45 years of my career in fashion, I realize that the fashion imagery of our world has become increasingly celebrity-driven. Fifty years from now, maybe our son, Jack, will look back and say, “ Wow, my dad really dressed everybody. He was so much a part of his time.”

Now go and get a copy of the book.
