National Pet Day 2022: The Best Pet-Friendly Hotels

While arguably every day is National Pet Day for most animal owners, the holiday—celebrated on April 11 in both the U.S. and countries including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and Scotland—offers a dedicated opportunity to appreciate the joy furry friends bring to our lives and the health benefits of having a pet (something the National Institutes of Health has long researched), while highlighting the plight of animals patiently awaiting adoption at rescue organizations everywhere.

Though the advantages of living with four-legged friends are legion, traveling with them can be complicated—but an ever-growing number of hotels are making taking pets along on adventures a breeze.

To help furry friends feel right at home, the Animals R Fun (ARF) and Love that Dog programs, available at Marriott’s Aloft Hotels and Element Hotels, respectively, treat four-legged family members up to 40 pounds like VIPs, at no additional cost to guests. Pets receive complimentary bowls and their own bed, among other treats. The Briarcliff Motel, located at the foot of Monument Mountain in the heart of the Berkshires in Great Barrington, MA, also welcomes pets at no charge.

Other hotels invite animal companions at a price. Just 20 minutes from Great Barrington and set on 27 acres of lush lawns and stunning gardens perfect for pets, the Seven Hills Inn in Lenox, MA, a historic mansion comprised of 56 stylishly renovated guest rooms and suites across three separate buildings, happily hosts pets for a $75 fee, no matter how long the stay.

At the Moxy NYC Chelsea, guests can can book the House Pet package for a $150 fee and receive a custom Moxy dog bowl and blanket to take home. Meanwhile, two other Marriott brands, TownPlace Suites and Residence Inn, allow two pets per room at every property; rates are subject to property discretion.

There are also plenty of uber-luxe options for man’s best friend. Besides a plush robe for your pooch, the Puppy Pampering Package at the Lotte Hotel Seattle, which starts at $600 per night (and requires seven-day advance booking), comes complete with a $100 F&B credit—good toward in-room dining from the regular and “Canine Cuisine” menus—a dog-friendly city guide, and a comfy dog bed, among other amenities.
