Fast food fans across the UK have been without their McDonald’s milkshake fix this week as the chain has been hit by supply shortages.  

The US chain, which has 1,250 restaurants in the UK,  has stopped serving the drinks this week due to supply chain issues caused by Brexit and the pandemic.

While staff are ‘working hard to return these items to the menu as soon as possible’, many savvy social media users have been whipping the shake themselves at home – in a few simple steps.

TIkTok star  Alistair Lowe, from Reading, shared a clip making the chocolate version of  milkshake with just four ingredients. 

In the recipe, he adds vanilla ice-cream, milk, Cadbury’s hot chocolate powder and  chocolate spread before popping it in the blender.

If you prefer vanilla, strawberry and banana varieties,  Instagram star Todd Wilbur, who posts copycat recipes of popular fast food restaurants to his account Top Secret Recipes, shared his take on the McDonald’s shake, revealing the secret is a few tablespoons of Nesquik in the flavour of your choice.

  • Two cups of vanilla ice cream
  • 300ml of milk
  • 4 teaspoons of chocolate powder
  • 1 tablespoon of chocolate spread

  • 25g Organic Whey Protein
  • 1 tsp. Honey

  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 10g Bee Pollen
  • Cacoa nibs
