Om Raut and Manoj Muntashir defend ‘Adipurush’: This is not a film for us, it’s a representation of our bhakti and shraddha – Times of India

Om Raut’s mythological drama ‘Adipurush’ landed in a soup ever since the teaser was released last week. The film faced objections for ‘misrepresentation of Hindu deities’ and ‘hurting religious sentiments’. While many demanded changes in the film, a plea has been filed in a Delhi court seeking injunction against the film, alleging it has depicted Hindu gods in an “unwarranted” and “inaccurate” way in its promotional video.

Filmmaker Om Raut and dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir have come ahead to defend ‘Adipurush’ amid calls boycott. In a recent interview the duo said that the film doesn’t attempt to change the story of Lord Ram.

Speaking to News 18, Manoj said that not even 1% of the film is a deviation from actual Ramayan. “Ramayan is an epic in which demon king Raavan kidnaps Ma Sita and Lord Ram goes to Lanka to save her with help from Vaanar Sena. In a nutshell, this is Ramayana as told to a five-year-old kid. This is the story we have lived with, are retelling and showing in our film,” he was quoted saying.

Om Raut added that it was their idea is to recreate Ramayana on celluloid. “I don’t want anyone to misunderstand that we have changed it. It is to translate from books to celluloid. So this is not a film for us. This is a representation of our bhakti, shraddha (devotion and faith) and what we stand for,” he said.

The plea seeking stay on the release of ‘Adipurush’ alleges that Lord Ram and Hanuman are portrayed in an unwarranted and inaccurate depiction of wearing leather straps. “That prima facie the teaser or promo of the movie is so atrocious wicked and diabolical that it along with the pursuant movie which is to be released on January 12, 2023, should be outrightly banned in its present form in the interest of religious feelings, sentiments and aspirations of Hindus of India and elsewhere,” the plea stated.
