Actor John Challis passes away at the age of 79 – Times of India

Actor John Challis, who is known for essaying the role of Boycie in the UK series ‘Only Fools And Horses’ passed away after a quiet battle with cancer. He was 79. His family has confirmed the news in a statement saying, “He passed away peacefully in his sleep, after a long battle with cancer.”

His ‘Beindorm’ co-star Crissy Rock said she was heartbroken. She tweeted: “John you were a true gentleman and always so loving and supportive towards me. I am thinking of your family and close friends at this hard time. Rest well. Crissy xx”

Earlier this month, the actor cancelled his tour due to ill health.

Though his role as Boycie made him popular among the audience and he was able to stay in his television career for a long run by playing Captain Peacock in ‘Are You Being Served?’ and Monty Staines in ‘Benidorm’.

Born in Clifton, Bristol, he was the only child of Alec, a civil servant, and Jean (nee Harden), a drama teacher and keen amateur actress.

Reportedly, Challis recently became an honorary citizen of Serbia, where his sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses’ is one of the popular shows.
